Masters Producing


• Length: This is a one-year full-time postgraduate course aimed at students wishing to fast-track their producing career in the screen industry
• Industry exposure: Over the course of this programme students work with real-life clients to build workplace skills. Previous clients that have worked with students as part of the MA Producing course include: Shell UK, The Internet Watch Foundation, RightsInfo, Transport for London, Saatchi, Monster.co.uk, The Royal Marsden, Mind, Mencap, Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen and Stonewall.
• Practical training: The course offers a practical immersion in the world of screen content production allowing students to acquire core creative, business and people skills required to succeed as a producer.
• Recognised quality. Our outstanding academic credentials are recognised by leading higher education bodies such as CILECT, QAA and Creative SkillSet.

• Screen Lab. You will participate in seminars and workshops covering a range of topics, including practical filmmaking skills, creative brainstorming, a survey of concepts underpinning moving image theory, and the state of the creative industries. At the end of this module, you will shoot a mini filmed project on an iPhone/Android, focusing on the primacy of content in the Say Something! exercise.
• Producing Boot Camp. This is an immersive module that covers the key organisational principles and knowledge, which informs the role of producing in today’s entertainment industry. Through seminars and workshops, you will find out about the structure of the industry, the roles of the producer, basics of film finance, marketing and distribution, the role of agents, festivals and media outlets, and pitching theory and practice.
• Financing, Commissioning and Project Management. This module offers a comprehensive analysis of what it takes to get film and TV projects into the marketplace, including the creative development process, studio versus independent financing, international co-productions, the role of broadcasters and state support, and new models such as crowdsourcing and micro-finance.
• Creative Producing and Client Management. This module synthesises knowledge and skills gained from the previous modules. It aims to give students an understanding of how creative producers operate within the wider entertainment industry, focusing on a range of core competencies including: leadership, negotiation, deal-making, networking, business development, project development, creative talent management, problem solving and troubleshooting.
• Creating Value in the Contemporary Screen World. This module provides a foundation for later modules through a survey of comparative business strategies, the role of planning and analysis, creative industry business development, organisational behaviour, and the principles of marketing across film, television and the internet.
• Research and Project Methods. You will begin to prepare for your final Master’s Project by exploring key research methods including defining problems, identifying areas of academic enquiry, formulating hypotheses, collecting, organising and evaluating data, developing and assessing conclusions.
• Master’s Project. This is a largely self-directed module during which you will work under the guidance of a faculty advisor towards the development and production of a final short film produced by the student, or a comprehensive business proposal for a film, television or online/multi-media project.

• All applicants must be 18 years or older at the time the programme begins
• A 2:1 honors degree from a UK university or overseas equivalent
• EU students -If English is not your first language, or if your previous education was not conducted fully in English, you will need to provide documented evidence of your English language competence to study a course with us.
• Students who are from outside the EU (and EEA countries) must provide evidence that their English language ability is up to standard for the programme they have applied. For postgraduate programmes we require an IELTS overall score of 6.5: with at least 6.5 in writing and at least 5.5 in listening, reading and speaking. Prior to applying for your Tier 4 visa, you will need to demonstrate a B2 English Level which is upper intermediate. The following tests are satisfactory to demonstrate this: IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge PET, ESOL Skills for Life Level 1 and 2, Trinity Level 1.

Requirements to get a Spanish student visa?
Before you schedule an appointment at the Spanish Embassy in your country there are a few documents you need to have ready. • Biometric pictures
• Passport with expiry date at least 6 months past the date you are applying for
• Health Insurance Letter from Spanish provider
• Medical Examination, following the current requirements of the Spanish Health Association
• Accommodation Letter
• Bank statement, showing that you can financially sustain yourself during your whole stay in Spain (this amount varies every year, contact us for the up-to-date requirements)
• Invitation and offer letter from a Spanish academic institution
• Visa fees paid
• Most of these documents need to be translated into Spanish by a sworn translator and legalized by the notary or Spanish authorities, depending on your country of origin.
